Vineyards

For five generations, our family has known that great wines are made in the vineyard. We maintain this belief as we begin to explore the potential of the Washington landscape. Read on to learn more about Valdemar Estates’ Washington vineyards in the Walla Walla AVA and Walla Walla Valley.

 Las Canteras

Size

9 Acres

Soil

Flood deposited cobble stones and river rock

Varietals

Syrah, Viognier, Garnacha, Viura

Our vineyard is located within the portion of The Rocks District, a sub-AVA located within the Walla Walla Valley. The Rocks is well known for its unique soil type – deep soils of weathered cobblestones in the ancient riverbed of the Walla Walla River. Fertile soils aid in the cultivation of healthy vines; however, the growing season is compressed and intense, with added heat radiating from the stones in the summer. Careful attention is required every vintage to bring forth the purest expression of this unique terroir. These soils produce wines with a distinct aromatic profile. To balance site expression with the pressures of climate change, we chose to plant this vineyard with an East-West row orientation, perpendicular to its current neighbors. This row orientation provides more shade in the rocky aisle between the vines, and helps maintain freshness and concentration in the fruit.

North Fork

Elevation

1,700 – 2,100 ft

Size

6.4 acres

Varietals

Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Chardonnay

Our search for new and exciting vineyard sites led us to the foothills of the Blue Mountains – an area known as “The North Fork” of the meandering canyon of the Walla Walla River. As you drive southeast from Walla Walla, the flat, rocky terrain of the valley floor transforms into steep draws and weathered slopes. This untamed site rises to elevations of almost 2,100 feet and experiences more moderate temperatures than those found on the valley floor. This elevation in the Blue Mountains receives significantly more rainfall than other areas of the Walla Walla AVA. This, coupled with favorable sunlight exposures, will allow for a prolonged growing season, producing fruit of depth, concentration, and unparalleled complexity.

Eventide

Elevation

1000-1225 ft

Size

22 acres

Varietals

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot

Nestled between 1000-1225 feet elevation, Eventide unfolds with a northeast-facing, gently sloped terrain and 100% Walla Walla silt loam. Formed by the valley's strong winds, grapes develop thicker skins, while the North-East aspect preserves acidity and freshness. The outcome? Textured, powerful, yet elegant wines embodying the essence of Walla Walla with a European touch.

Adjacent to esteemed vineyards like Serra Pedace (Leonetti Cellar, Pambrun (Willamette Valley Vineyards), and Walla Squared (Echolands), Eventide shares its landscape with respected neighbors. This property is the backbone of Valdemar Estates Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. 'We are looking for wines with a little bit higher acid, a bit fresher style. This site gives us that naturally.' - Jesús Martínez Bujanda Mora, our CEO and fifth-generation winery owner.
